17th.Oct.12.- The member of the Governing Council for Environment and land use planning, Borja Sarasola, attended today at the end of the harvest period of the Wines of Madrid with the latest harvest of grapes in the winery ”El Regajal”, located in Aranjuez.
Thus, the member of the Governing Council got today the culmination of a season that has resulted in a harvest of about15,347,000 kg. grape belonging to the DO Vinos de Madrid. The harvest this year has been characterized by an extraordinary fruit quality and disease incidence null. In total, the harvest has remained at the same levels as in 2011, and with a vintage that has been described as “very good”.
“We have an excellent grape that can not give another result that a high quality wine. From the regional Government, we strongly support the sector through research to improve the competitiveness and promoting the wines to enter it into the supply chain and facilitate reaching the consumer, “said Sarasola.
Some areas in the region began in mid-August with the harvest of earlier grape varieties, although it was not until the second week of September when the harvest was generalized throughout the Denomination of Origin (DO) Vinos de Madrid. This has been a year with no rain, with dry and warm weather, so the berry size is smaller. Still, expectations have been met and the vintage effect was similar to last year.
The wineries that won the 12 Bacchus Awards this year, put the finishing touch to the meeting with the member of the Governing Council, who was able to check the quality of the wines ofMadrid.
